A
chartered accountant who has expressed desire to contest the Manso Adubia
parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region on the ticket of the NPP, Dr. Osei
Kofi Afoakwa has urged the leadership of the party not to put any limitations
on who should qualify to contest in the parliamentary primaries.
He warned that
proposals by the National Executive Council of the party as regards the conduct
of its parliamentary primaries would undermine the fielding of credible parliamentary
candidates to represent the party in the 2016 general elections and in turn reducing
the number of votes the NPP will obtain in the same elections. Dr. Afoakwa was
speaking to GBC’s Garden City Radio after handing over a 16 bed solar powered
medical ward to the Manso Adubia Health Centre. The facility was provided by
him at a cost of 80 thousand Ghana Cedis. Dr. Afoakwa has also provided the
Manso Odaho community, his home town, with a 14-seater KVIP.
According to Dr.
Afoakwa, sections of the proposal such as female parliamentary aspirants not be
contested by male candidates and f the filing and development fees to be paid
by aspirants will discourage many interested people from contesting. He therefore
appealed to national, regional and constituency executives of the party to
reconsider the proposals in the interest of party unity.
