MORE CONSULTATIONS

A leading member of the NPP, George Ayisi Boateng has called for broader consultations on the party’s proposal on affirmative action put forward by the National Executive Council of the party that has generated unpleasant reaction from members.
According to him, the reaction to the proposal by a section of the party members is not in the best interest of the party. Reacting to the overreaction to the proposal in an interview, Mr. Ayisi Boateng called on members who are not in favour of the proposal to refrain from any act that is likely to undermine the chances of the party to recapture power next year.

He said the party has several other options apart from affirmative action in support of enticing more women to stand for the parliamentary elections. Mr. Ayisi Boateng said the party should never sacrifice competence and capability on the altar of getting more women to contest on the party’s ticket to go to parliament. According to him, some women within the party have worked hard to beat sitting MPs in the primaries and gone ahead to win their seats, adding that this is what should inform the party whenever it is considering any policy that can place women at the forefront of party’s activities.

Mr. Ayisi Boateng is therefore appealing to women who have the capacity and ability to contest for any parliamentary seat to continue to work extra hard to realize the ambition. The leading member hoped the issue will very soon be put to rest as the party prepares to launch its campaign and strategize for the 2016 general elections. Mr. Ayisi Boateng asked members of the party, especially the top hierarchy to respect the party’s structures, ensure confidentiality and avoid exposing vital decisions which not well handled and managed can undermine party unity.
