A total
of 268 thousand 771 final year senior high school student candidates are
writing this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE
which starts today. The figure represents an increase of 20 thousand, 603
candidates over last year’s figure of 242 thousand 162 candidates. The
candidates writing the 2015 WASSCE are from 868 public and private second cycle
schools. They will be writing the examination at 866 centres. Statistics of the
WASSCE indicate 139 thousand 843 males are sitting the examination as against
128 thousand 928 females. Ashanti region has the highest number of candidates
of 62 thousand 472, followed by the Eastern region with 39 thousand 821
candidates. Central region has the third largest number of candidates of 28
thousand 312. The region with the least number of candidates is the Upper West
region with three thousand 999 males and three thousand and 61 females. The
WASSCE will be written in Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Gambia.
The examination begins with Integrated Science today.
