The District Chief Executive for Sekyere South in Ashanti,
Edward Kusi Ayarkwah has appealed to all aspirants of the district level
election to corporate with the Electoral Commission to ensure a successful
exercise, despite a Supreme Court order for the whole process to be restarted.
Mr. Ayarkwah said though the aspirants had expended resources on campaigns and
other activities towards the elections, they should consider their desire to
champion the development of their electoral areas when elected and resolve to
contest when a new date is set for the exercise. The DCE made the appeal in an
interview with GBC's
Garden City Radio, in Kumasi. He said it is unfortunate
the district level elections could not be held on the scheduled third of this
month. The delay however should not result in voter apathy towards the national
exercise. Mr. Ayarkwah also debunked a public perception that most
developmental projects undertaken by metropolitan, municipal and district
assemblies do not pass through the right processes before the award of
contracts. He emphasized that projects undertaken by MMDAs go through the
tendering, competitive bidding and procurement processes.
