COMMUNITY APOLOGISES

The chiefs and people of Sereso – Tinpomu in the Atwima Mponua District of Ashanti have apologized to the Inspector – General of Police and the Police Administration on the destruction caused to the police property during the violent attack on the local police post. The people have also expressed regret about the behavior of the youth and appealed to the Police Administration to reconsider its decision to open the station.

This is contained in a petition signed by the chiefs and Assembly members in the area and copied to the District Assembly. The petition referred to what if called unwarranted attack on the police station about a month ago, setting ablaze the sprinter bus vehicle belonging to the station officer, vandalized the police station and looted all personal effects of the five policemen at post. The incident led to the immediate relocation of the police and their families to Nyinchin, the District capital and, temporarily closed down the station.

The youth who carried out the attack took refuge in the bush for fear of being arrested and prosecuted. Speaking to GBC’s Garden City Radio in Kumasi, the DCE, Stephen Yeboah said, he is personally leading the people to the IGP and hoped the petition would be received and the chiefs pardoned while efforts are being made to bring the perpetrators to face the full rigors of the law. He said never will such an incident be repeated in anywhere across the district.

Mr. Yeboah assured the police officers of his determination to help provide adequate security for the people, while ensuring their personal security.
