CHIEF FIRE OFFICER TOURS KUMASI




The National Chief Fire Officer, Dr. Albert Brown Gaisie has admonished all Ghanaians to be fire-conscious in their daily activities to help reduce the numerous fire outbreaks in the country. According to him, it behooves on individuals to be responsible for their personal safety at all times both at home and at their various work places. The National Chief Fire Officer made the call in Kumasi during a two-day familiarization tour of the Ashanti region to be abreast with the risk and safety situations in most institutions in the region.  Among the institutions visited on the first day were the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi Central Medical Store and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation at Dadiesoaba in Kumasi. Dr. Gaisie emphasized the need to create fire free zones in all structures to be manned by competent fire warding teams. He urged institutions to conduct periodic reviews of their fire safety policies and install early warning systems and equipments such as fire extinguishers, alarms, water sprinklers and smoke detectors.  Dr. Gaisie also appealed to the media to use their platforms to educate the citizenry on basic fire safety practices adding that the country cannot continue to lose its human and financial resources through the many preventable fires. The Chief Executive of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Joseph Akpaloo thanked the National Chief Fire Officer and his team for the visit whilst assuring adherence to all of the hospital’s fire safety programs. The deputy Ashanti Regional Pharmacist, Alhaji Kofi Baryeh on his part appealed to the fire service to regularly embark on such visits and resource the medical store with basic firefighting equipment.
