Reports
reaching GBC’s Garden City Radio say the, NPP, is holding a National Council
emergency meeting in Accra. The emergency meeting is to reconsider recent guidelines
for the conduct of the party’s parliamentary primaries in all the
constituencies.
In the directive is an Affirmative policy that allows only
female members to contest in constituencies where the incumbent MP is a woman.
The decision was met with various reactions by members of the party who
consider the directive as not being in the interest of the fortunes of the
party going into next year’s general elections.
Reports say almost all the high
profile members of the NPP such as the former President John Agyekum Kuffuor,
the 2016 standard bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, his running mate, Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia as well as the National Chairman and the General Secretary.
Some members are also said to be loitering around the meeting venue to drum home
their concerns and the need for the party’s leadership to review some of the
new directives, especially the affirmative one.
