DISPLACED PUPILS

Displaced final year pupils at the Kenyase D/A Junior High School ‘A’ in the Kwabre East District of Ashanti following a rainstorm have appealed to government as a matter of urgency provide an alternative classroom for them to prepare for the upcoming BECE.

The one-storey building had the roof ripped off during a torrential rainfall, which caused extensive damage to the building and property worth millions of Ghana cedis. All the 21 computers at the Computer Laboratory, books and office equipment at the Staff Common Room, headmaster’s office and cupboards meant for storage of exercise and textbooks were all destroyed.

Many houses and structures of poultry farms in the area were also seriously affected. There was however no human casualty. The Headmaster of the School, Thomas Addae who made the appeal said most of the school’s administrative and academic records were also destroyed in the process, but will not have any effect on the BECE.

He said a request has been made to the District Assembly, NADMO, the Ghana Education Service, and the Chiefs and people in the town to assist in re-roofing the structure to avoid further destruction of the building now that the rains have set in. Mr. Addae said this is the massive disaster the school has experienced since its establishment about 70 years ago.

The Nkosuohene of Kenyase, Nana Oduro Agyemang said he has met with his elders to initiate a programme to provide a long term solution.
