MMDCE’s ORIENTATION

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives have been tasked to judiciously utilize the nation’s resources at their disposal to improve on social services to make life affordable to Ghanaians.

The Chief Executives are expected to ensure affordable healthcare, accessible quality education for children, effective waste management, motorable roads and value addition to agricultural products.

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda was speaking at an orientation programme for some selected MMDCE’s across the country. The beneficiary Chief Executives are those appointed for the position some time ago.

The three day orientation course will take the participants through topics such as DCE’s as agents for change in participatory local Governance, Administration Decentralization, coordination and integration, the District Assembly as a Planning and Budgeting Entity, managing and reporting on District Assemblies Common Fund.

Others are Environmental management and Sanitation at the local level, Revenue mobilization as well as procurement and contracts management at the local level. Alhaji Dauda said a greater responsibility has been placed on the DCE’s and they must therefore work hard to mobilize resources to ensure equitable distribution for the better of all.

The Acting Ashanti Regional Minister Eric Opoku in an address read for him told the DCE’s as representatives of government that they should let integrity, hardwork and concern for the people be their watchword. They should be client focused and care for the welfare of the people.

Mr. Opoku also asked them to show respect and cooperation with their staff and Assembly members to attract their maximum respect and support.
